WILSON SOSSION ONE SIDE, MINISTRY OF EDUCATION THE OTHER SIDE

KNUT Chair Wilson Sossion says that with the increasing COVID-19 positive cases, all learning institutions to remain closed with the KCPE and KCSE the national examinations rescheduled to 2021. The Ministry of education on the other hand insists on not postponing the exams, CS Matiangi says the questions set will only cover what the learners have covered before the outbreak of COVID-19 in Kenya, followed immediately thereafter with closure of schools disrupting the traditional method of learning.

MICROSOFT LAUNCHES POWER AFRICAN COMMUNITY FOR TECH DEVELOPERS

Microsoft today launched the Power African Community for African developers. The concept is similar to their earlier program dubbed NexTech Africa where like minds would converge and engage with tech experts from various parts of the world. “We will bring back the concept of Nextech but ongoing. This year we want to engage with you (African Developers) so much better through a series of virtual events. Events focused on Power Platform, Azure, M365 and much more.” said Dona Sakar, Microsoft’s principal advocate.

BANKS FACE FINES FOR LOCKING OUT BLACKLISTED BORROWERS

Banks, saccos and micro-finance lenders now face a fine of Sh2 million for every defaulter they deny loans to for being listed negatively with the country’s credit reference bureaus (CRBs). This new regulation represents a fresh attempt to unlock credit to firms and workers hard hit by effects of coronavirus pandemic. The Treasury has introduced the fine in regulations aimed at cleaning up the CRBs blacklist and enhancing borrowers’ chances of being able to borrow more.
