HISTORIC: UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI CONDUCTS FIRST EVER END OF SEMESTER EXAMS ONLINE

The first case of COVID-19 reported in Kenya in the month of March saw the closure of schools on March 16th this year forcing students to vacate all learning institutions. The ongoing COVID-19 outbreak has prompted schools to be adoptive in the use of technology to ensure their learners can still continue with their education albeit digitally. The University of Nairobi reacted swiftly moving all courses onto the online platforms and conducted virtual classes. So far, 5500 of these classes have been held in the course of the semester.

WILSON SOSSION ONE SIDE, MINISTRY OF EDUCATION THE OTHER SIDE

KNUT Chair Wilson Sossion says that with the increasing COVID-19 positive cases, all learning institutions to remain closed with the KCPE and KCSE the national examinations rescheduled to 2021. The Ministry of education on the other hand insists on not postponing the exams, CS Matiangi says the questions set will only cover what the learners have covered before the outbreak of COVID-19 in Kenya, followed immediately thereafter with closure of schools disrupting the traditional method of learning.

SAFARICOM FOUNDATION PARTNERS WITH SCOPE INTERNATIONAL TO INSTALL SANITATION BOOTHS IN 6 COUNTIES

Safaricom Foundation in partnership with Scope International has set up 17 sanitation booths at a cost of Kes 1.1 million in Homabay, Siaya, Migori, Kisii, Bungoma and Busia, to be used by 60,000 people daily including ferry users with the aim of curbing the spread of COVID-19. These booths are strategically located at Kenya's border to Tanzania at Isebania in Migori County and at the Ugandan border in Bungoma and Busia counties.

JAPAN'S GOVERNMENT LIFTS NATIONAL STATE OF EMERGENCY OVER CORONAVIRUS

In a news conference Monday evening, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe touted the country’s ability to flatten the curve and lift the emergency declaration in about a month and a half — without compulsory lockdown measures seen in the United States and Europe,pointing out that the number of patients in hospitals has decreased to below 2,000. He based this on a judgement call after seeing that the country had met the strict standard therefore lifting the state of emergency in comparison to other countries.

COVID-19 first broke out in Wuhan, a city in China in December 2019, this is common knowledge to everyone. Then began the theories it was manufactured in the lab, it is a biological warfare, and so on and so forth. Kimanzi Muthui, a resident of Mbagwani Village in Muumoni area, Mwingi North, is said to have fatally slashed his parent, Agnes Kisyinoi, with a panga after she declined to serve him dinner on Monday night. He then attempted suicide by taking poison and is now receiving treatment at Kyuso Level 4 hospital in Mwingi North Sub-county, Kitui County. Muumoni OCPD Morris Guda says once Muthui is discharged from hospital, he will be charged with murder.
