KEMRI TESTS EFFICACY OF HERBAL DRUG IN VIRUS WAR

Kenya’s leading research institute has begun exploring efficacy of one of its herbal and traditional medicines likely to treat Covid-19. Kenya Medical Research Institute (Kemri) has identified Zedupex, an in-house herbal medicine used in the treatment of genital herpes -- a common viral disease that causes sores on the mouth and genitals.

PRESIDENT KENYATTA EXTENDS KENYA'S NATIONWIDE CURFEW, PARTIAL LOCKDOWN FOR 21 DAYS

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has ordered a 21-day extension of the country's nationwide dusk-to-dawn curfew as the number of new daily COVID-19 infections hit a record rise, with 49 new cases registered.This now brings Kenya's COVID-19 infections to 830 and the death toll to 50.

In a briefing on Saturday, the president also extended a ban on travel into and out of Nairobi Metropolitan Area, the counties of Kilifi, Kwale, Mombasa and Mandera to the 6 June, 2020, the same date the curfew is expected to end.

FOOD SECURITY CRISIS FOR NYATIKE RESIDENTS

Migori Governor Okoth Obado has appealed to the national government to distribute relief food to drought-stricken parts of the county. He said most residents in Nyatike constituency face severe hunger as a result of the long dry spell. “Nyatike is a semi-arid area and crop production has declined. It is our appeal to the national government to also remember our people here as it distributes relief food to other parts of the country,” Obado said on Saturday.
