UHURU'S MADARAKA DAY SPEECH HINT

Kenya celebrated Madaraka day celebrations 57 years for the first time indoors and virtually. President Uhuru Kenyatta gave his speech again for the first time from State house that was given live coverage as Kenyans followed from home. The president said that in the coming days he will address the nation on matters going forward amidst the increasing positive cases on covid-19.

The CS Education Prof George Magoha said on Friday that learning institutions will not reopen on June 4 as earlier scheduled. He reiterated that the school calendar is not a priority than the safety of the children who can even stay home until January, as he continues to get guidance from the Ministry of Health and the 10-member Education Response Committee on Covid-19. The CS asked the parents to brace themselves for an extended closure of schools.

However that being said, in his speech, President Kenyatta directed the Ministry of Interior and Education to work on guidelines and protocol on the gradual reopening of places of worship and schools to ensure safety of all learners and congregants. This seemed to be in the near future.
