KENYA'S NATIONWIDE DUSK TO DAWN CURFEW 30 DAYS EXTENSION

June 6th 2020 finally arrived with Kenyans following the live televised broadcast on what President Kenyatta would announce on the way forward. So far, Kenya has 2,862 positive covid-19 cases with 85 deaths. The President alluded to the memes he saw trending that day of how Kenyans wanted him to open up the country, citing freedom, but he said he will not do it at the detriment of the country as much as he wanted to, for the sake of the economy. He posed a question on the country's health care institutions, were we ready to offer home care at the risk of exposing loved ones to the virus?

KENYA WILL NO LONGER IMPORT PPE (PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT)

Kenya on Friday recorded 52 new Covid-19 cases bringing the national tally to 1,161. Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said 2,567 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The Health minister, in his daily briefing, said Nairobi accounted for 23 of the new cases, Mombasa and Busia counties seven each. Kenya, which confirmed its first case of the virus on March 13, had tested a total of 55, 074 samples from different parts of the county by May 22.

CHINESE FIRM TO BUILD SH1.5BN LIKONI FLOATING BRIDGE

China Road and Bridge Corporation will construct the Likoni floating bridge in Mombasa at Sh1.5 billion. A contract has been signed between CRBC and Kenya National Highways Authority according to a May 5 statement on the Chinese firm’s website. The bridge will reduce congestion at the crossing channel, allowing Likoni residents to access the Mombasa Island and vice versa.

KENYA ACQUIRES MOBILE LABS, TESTING KITS FROM GERMANY TO HELP FIGHT COVID-19

Kenya on Wednesday 20th May 2020, acquired two mobile laboratories and testing kits from Germany to help fight Covid-19 as the number of cases passed the 1,000 mark. The Health ministry announced 66 new cases bringing the national tally to 1,029.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said at a press briefing that of the new cases 62 are Kenyans and 2 foreigners. Mr Kagwe announced an extension of cessation of movement in and out of Eastleigh and Old Town estate in Mombasa until June 6. Malls and eateries will remained closed until the same date, the CS announced

PRESIDENT KENYATTA EXTENDS KENYA'S NATIONWIDE CURFEW, PARTIAL LOCKDOWN FOR 21 DAYS

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has ordered a 21-day extension of the country's nationwide dusk-to-dawn curfew as the number of new daily COVID-19 infections hit a record rise, with 49 new cases registered.This now brings Kenya's COVID-19 infections to 830 and the death toll to 50.

In a briefing on Saturday, the president also extended a ban on travel into and out of Nairobi Metropolitan Area, the counties of Kilifi, Kwale, Mombasa and Mandera to the 6 June, 2020, the same date the curfew is expected to end.
