UoN Career Fair and Expo 2024, Preparing Students for the 21st Century.

The University of Nairobi's Office of Career Services hosted a three day Career Fair and Expo 2024, themed "Future Ready? Navigating Through the 21st Century." The Expo brought industry partners closer to students, offering mentorship and guidance on thriving in the competitive job market. The fair featured a variety of engaging activities, including exhibitions, on one interactions with industry leaders, insightful panel discussions, CV reviews and revamps, psychometric testing, and representation from a wide range of industries.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gitahi Kiama, inaugurated the event, reassuring the university community of the institution's commitment to creating opportunities for fresh graduates and enhancing the curriculum. He emphasized the importance of collaborating with stakeholders to bring more partners and opportunities on board, ensuring that students are well prepared for the future.

Speaking during the opening ceremony, Madam Naom Nyaboga MPRSK, Head of section, Office of Career Services, highlighted the office's mandate to equip and prepare graduates to alleviate the pressure of job searching. She outlined several successful programs designed to support and provide employment opportunities for graduates. Echoing this commitment, Mr. Johnson Ireri Kinyua, the Dean of Students, assured attendees of his office's dedication to securing enough job opportunities for graduates. ‘We are working with more and more companies to expose our students and make them ready for the job market’

Day two of the expo featured a thought provoking panel discussion covering critical topics essential for career success in the 21st century. The panelists explored themes such as critical thinking skills, the significant role of emotional intelligence in career success (accounting for 50% of success in any career), digital literacy, and the importance of creativity and personal branding.

The fair offered around 120 job and internship opportunities, giving students ample time to interact with industry professionals and understand the dynamics of the job market. The event facilitated meaningful connections and provided students with valuable insights into various career paths.
