Recognizing Staff and Students  with Disability at UoN

The University of Nairobi in collaboration with the National Council for Persons with Disability (NCPWD)  organized celebrations to mark the International Day of Persons with Disability (IDPD) on Wednesday 1st  to Friday 3rd December, 2021 from 8am to 4pm at the Great Court and Taifa Hall, Main Campus.

The aim of the IDPD was to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development, and to increase awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.

The theme for the 2021 IDPD is “Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities towards an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID-19 world.”

Staff and students with disabilities who were not registered with NCPWD were invited to a Registration Exercise by the Council on December 1st and 2nd 2021 outside Taifa Hall, UoN Main Campus. There were Doctors on site to conduct assessment after which registration cards will be issued by NCPWD. In addition, there was Free Eye Screening, Covid-19 Vaccination (Johnson & Johnson), Inclusive Sports, and a Networking event for persons with disabilities.

The event was a great success incorporating all students and staff with disability. Disability inclusion is a key focus for the University.
