The Office of Career Services is a critical department in the University that helps graduates transition smoothly from learning to earning. This is achieved by developing essential competencies among graduates to groom them for the job market. The mandate of the Office therefore is two-fold, linking Graduates to the job market and enhancing the value of graduates through skills and competencies development.
As part of actualizing these functions, the Office of Career Services organized a Career Fair & Expo targeting University and High School students. This was held from May 22 – 24, 2024 at Hyslop Parking and the UoN Taifa Hall, Main Campus. The Career Fair aimed at helping students navigate their respective careers existing and emerging in the 21st century. The Career Fair was structured as follows:
Day 1:
This day mainly focused on our University Students. This was the official opening ceremony and was graced by Prof. Stephen Kiama Vice Chancellor of the University of Nairobi, Prof. Leonidah Kerubo Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs, Mr. Johnson Kinyua the Dean of Students, Faculty Deans, Distinguished guests, and Students.

This day mainly focused on High School Students who were welcomed and introduced briefly to the University. A Panel Discussion was held with Miss. Maria Oloo as the moderator mainly focusing on 3 key areas; Career opportunities in the 21st century, the new University funding model, and University Placement. Everyone was allowed to head to the booths and stalls to interact with the exhibitors.
Day 3:
This was a half-day mainly focusing on interaction with industry partners at the booths and stalls.
While there are many reasons for unemployment, including poor economic growth and expansion of industry, lack of technical competencies and skills has been noted by the Interuniversity Council of East Africa and employers as a major challenge. The Career Fair & Expo sought to address this gap to help our students understand and navigate the World of work with ease.
