To all students, this is an update on University Operations from our VC Prof. S.G.Kiama based on the meeting of the University Senate held online yesterday, Tuesday March 31, 2020.
1. In the face of COVID-19 pandemic, several University staff/ Lecturers are working with the Government, giving advice and also educating the Kenyan community on various media platforms, about the pandemic.
2. Faculty and postgraduate students at the College of Health Sciences have continued to offer service at KNH and are also engaged in other hospitals in Kenya.
3. The University of Nairobi School of Law, in liaison with the Kenya Law Reform Commission (KLRC) and the Attorney General's Office, is assisting the Government to draft the COVID-19 Bill.
4. University of Nairobi researchers are also writing proposals for research grants required for arresting COVID-19.
5. That there were some challenges experienced regarding access to networks and cost of bundle, we are looking to the Government working to allow Google Loon and Telkom to provide internet in remote areas.
6. That the ICT-Centre and Del Campus were training both staff and students on available online platforms for teaching/learning.
7. That the University was working with Safaricom and other service providers to provide data bundles for online learning.
8. All Faculties, schools, Institutes and Centers will launch online learning for both undergraduate and postgraduate students albeit with staggered semester schedules. The Principals of Colleges to facilitate the process and ensure conformity with applicable regulations.
9. That examination of postgraduate thesis, projects and dissertations be done online. Senate also approved a procedure and protocol for such examination.
10. That admission of new students using online platform to continue.
11. That online library resources will be made available to students and Faculty from their remote locations. Further, students to be provided with UoN email domain access.
