According to the latest July 2020 Webometrics Ranking, University of Nairobi is in the 10th position, 1st in the East African region and 956 in the world. The Webometrics is the largest academic ranking of higher education institutions. In the four parameters considered in this ranking, the UoN is position 198 in the presence rank, 1075 in impact, 749 in the openness rank and 1602 in excellence. Over 30,000 institutions from more than 200 countries.
The ranking which started in 2004 is in its 17th year of publication with the aim to offer full coverage of higher education institutions. The primary objective of the ranking is to promote Open Access to the knowledge generated by the university while the best strategy is to improve in the ranking, is to increase quantity and quality of the web content.
In Africa,University of Cape Town is number one followed by University of the Witwatersrand and Stellenbosch University at position 3, Makerere University is ranked at number 12 while Kenyatta University is 28.
The information posted on the Webometrics website indicates that the July edition is built with the indicators obtained during the month in order to maintain the freshness of the data of the most current and updated Ranking of Universities.
