UoN Hosts Career Talk at State House Girls

CAREER TALK AT STATE HOUSE GIRLS

On Wednesday, May 28, 2025, the University of Nairobi's Directorate of Finance and the Office of Career Services held an impactful Career Mentorship Session at State House Girls High School. The two-hour session, running from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, brought together finance professionals, career counsellors, and university representatives with one shared mission “To inspire and equip the next generation of leaders.

 

The session featured a powerful lineup of speakers who tackled critical topics shaping today’s professional world: Dr. George Ndiritu, Deputy Director of Finance, unpacked the basics of financial literacy, stressing the importance of budgeting, saving, and understanding money management from a young age. Ms. Pauline Gichuru, an Accountant, inspired the girls with a session on Women in Finance, Integrity & Ethics, sharing her journey and the values that have shaped her career.

Ms. Naomi Nyaboga, Section Head, Office of Career Services, spoke on Career Exploration and 21st Century Skills, guiding students on how to adapt and thrive in a rapidly evolving job market.

Mr. Ephraim Oguda, from the UoN Admissions Office, broke down programs offered at the University of Nairobi and their subject requirements, making higher education goals feel more attainable and within reach.

The event wrapped up with an engaging Q&A session where students asked thoughtful questions and received tailored advice from the UoN team. Ms. Rosemary Omwandho, Registrar Office of the Dean of Students, encouraged the girls to dream big and stay committed to their personal and academic goals. The day closed with a vote of thanks and prayer, leaving the students inspired, informed, and empowered.

This event reaffirmed the University of Nairobi's commitment to community engagement and mentorship. It was not just a talk,  it was a seed planted in fertile minds, nurturing future women in leadership, finance, and beyond.
