The University of Nairobi, through the Office of Career Services, in collaboration with the Advancement Office, the Confucius Institute, and the African Employability Summit, successfully hosted the 2025 Career Fair and Expo on October 16–17, 2025, at the Great Court, Main Campus.
Themed “Building Careers Across Disciplines,” this year’s Career Fair brought together students from universities, TVET institutions, and high schools, alongside employers, government agencies, professional associations, and non-profit organizations. The event served as a vibrant platform for dialogue, mentorship, and opportunity-sharing between academia and industry.
The event was officially opened by Prof. Ayub Gitau, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Affairs, who served as the Chief Guest on behalf of the Vice Chancellor. In his keynote address, he commended the Office of Career Services and its partners for fostering a culture of career preparedness, innovation, and inclusivity among students, emphasizing the University’s continued investment in career guidance and skills development.
Prof. Gitau emphasized the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration in addressing Kenya’s evolving labour market needs, urging students to “think beyond their academic disciplines and embrace diverse skills that cut across professions.” The Deputy Vice Chancellor further highlighted the University’s commitment to producing holistic, employable, and globally competitive graduates.
Over the two-day event, the Hyslop Parking buzzed with activity as employers, industry leaders, government agencies, and development partners interacted with over one thousand students and graduates. The 55 Exhibitors who signed up for the 2025 Career Fair showcased internship and job opportunities, while panel discussions and workshops addressed critical topics such as:
- Global Employability Skills: Competing in International and Remote Job Markets
- Workplace Readiness: What Employers Wish Graduates Knew
- Digital Literacy as a Competitive Edge: Skills Every Graduate Must Master (Freelancing, Remote Work, and the Gig Economy)
- Entrepreneurial Mindset: Thinking Beyond Employment
A highly engaging panel discussion moderated by Sofina Merinyo, Trainer and Impact Analyst, explored two key topics Global Employability Skills: Competing in International and Remote Job Markets and Workplace Readiness.

The experts shared real-world perspectives on employability, workplace culture, and transitioning from academia to professional practice.
Participants also benefited from skills-building sessions on CV writing, interview preparation, and professional branding, as well as one-on-one mentorship sessions facilitated by alumni and industry professionals.
This initiative reflects the University’s broader mission to promote inclusive excellence, equity, and holistic student development, preparing all students to thrive in Kenya’s dynamic and competitive economy.
The 2025 Career Fair & Expo was made possible through a partnership with industry partners, including representatives from the private sector, government, NGOs, and professional associations. Their contribution reaffirmed the strong partnership between the University of Nairobi and industry stakeholders in driving Kenya’s employability and workforce development agenda.
The Career Fair & Expo continues to serve as one of the University’s flagship initiatives under the Office of Career Services, linking academic excellence with real-world career opportunities. The multidisciplinary focus ensures that every student, regardless of their field of study, has access to relevant career guidance, exposure, and mentorship.
