Students converged for the Green Conference and Career Fair 2025.

The Office of Dean of Students and Career Services in collaboration with Engineering Students Association successfully hosted a two-day Green Conference and Career Fair 2025.

The Conference and Career fair gave students, industry leaders, and academia a platform to explore opportunities in the green sector and discuss the evolving landscape of sustainable careers.

The green conference focused on the growing demand for green skills and sustainable innovation, it emphasized the critical role of the green economy in shaping the future of work. Panel discussions and speeches covered key sectors such as renewable energy, green buildings, clean transportation, water and waste management, and sustainable land use.

Speaking at the event, Dean of Students Johnson Ireri Kinyua highlighted the university’s role in preparing graduates for the job market by exposing them to emerging global trends and fostering industry partnerships. He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to ensuring that students are equipped with the skills necessary to navigate the evolving employment landscape.

The event also gave students an opportunity to engage with industry leaders, ask critical questions, and explore how they could contribute to sustainable solutions.

Eng. Siphila Mumenya, Dean Faculty of Engineering emphasized that sustainability is not just a concept but a call to action, urging students to actively participate in shaping the future of work. “The skills you develop today will determine the impact you make tomorrow. Sustainability is not just a concept—it is a call to action, and you are the future leaders who will drive this change."

Representing the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Margaret Hutchinson, Eng. Siphila also encouraged students to seize the opportunities presented by the green economy.

One of the major outcomes of the career fair was the commitment from 45 industrial partners who came to join us for the career fair; they collectively provided over 2,000 opportunities for industrial attachments, internships, and job placements. This collaboration underscored the importance of equipping young professionals with practical experience in the green sector.

The career fair also reinforced the broader efforts being made to promote sustainability and green innovation. The government, in partnership with private sector stakeholders, has been implementing policies to incentivize green initiatives, sustainable production methods, and the adoption of eco-friendly technologies. Despite these efforts, many young people remain unaware of the opportunities available in the green economy. The career fair served as a major platform for raising awareness and encouraging students to explore careers in sustainability.

The office of Career Services remains committed to providing students with the knowledge and opportunities needed to drive sustainable change. Our partners will play a vital role in shaping the future of work in the green sector.
