The National Research Fund has put out calls for proposals in the following strategic thematic areas;
1. COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH ON CORONAVIRUS DISEASE (COVID-19)
The focus for this call is; early detection, prevention, management, supporting health systems or increasing scientific evidence to responses to COVID-19 pandemic. Successful application will be funded up to a maximum of (Ksh 20 Million) for a period of 1 year. Submission of applications in the official form must be in both electronic and 3 hard copies (labelled – Collaborative Research on Covid-19).

2. COLLABORATIVE INTERVENTIONS TO CONTROL DESERT LOCUSTS INVASION IN KENYA
This call invites research teams/experts to propose and develop short and long term innovative scientific interventions to combat the locust invasion in Kenya. Successful proposed interventions/solutions will be funded up to a maximum of (Ksh20 Million) for a period of (one (1) to three 3 Years). Submission of applications in the official form must be in both electronic and 3 hard copies (labelled - Collaborative Interventions to Control Desert Locusts Invasion in Kenya). Electronic applications should be submitted to locusts2020@researchfund.go.ke , and copy to nrfsecretariat@gmail.com.
3. COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH ON CANCER IN KENYA
The country needs to establish evidence-based cancer control measures that are specific to the country’s population. NRF invites research consortia to submit multi-institutional and multi-disciplinary research concept notes seeking to address research questions on Cancer in Kenya; screening, diagnosis, treatment/management, surveillance, risk factors, prevention, etc
The call for collaborative research on cancer in Kenya shall be in two phases: Phase 1 will involve submission of concept notes leading to prequalification. Prequalified concept notes will proceed to full proposals in Phase 2 in September, 2020.

Submission of applications in the official form must be in both electronic and 3 hard copies (labelled Collaborative Research on Cancer in Kenya).

Please note:
The office of DVC-RIE invites researchers who wish to have their proposals/concepts (especially the COVID-19 proposals) pre-reviewed before submission to submit these to the office at dvcrie@uonbi.ac.ke by May 21, 2020
All proposals must have institutional endorsement (DVC-RIE) and be submitted in both hard and soft copies. The DVC-RIE will receive and endorse the proposals not later than May 26, 2020. We shall deliver all endorsed hard copy proposals to NRF.
