Kisumu Campus Career Fair & Expo

Kisumu Campus Career Fair & Expo

The Office of Career Services is a critical department in the University that helps graduates to transit smoothly from learning to earning. This is achieved by developing essential competencies among graduates to groom them for the job market. The mandate of the Office therefore is two-fold, linking Graduates to the job market and enhancing the value of graduates through skills and competencies development.

As part of actualizing the functions of the Office of Career Services, a Career Fair and Expo was organized for Kisumu Campus on November 29-30, 2022.

The Career Fair & Expo sought to forge and nurture strong symbiotic partnerships between the Government and Industry to guide and mentor students and graduates towards a better and more fulfilling future necessary to positively impact on the graduates’ lives and for the socioeconomic growth of Kenya.

The Career Fair was structured with a blend of Panel Discussions, Career Guidance sessions, Mentorship and Industry Showcase through Exhibitions, The main topics of discussion included Job Skills of the 21st Century, the Future of Work, Branding for Employment, Entrepreneurship, CV Writing and Interview Etiquette, Talent and Image Management, and Creativity and Innovations.

The objectives of the Career Fair & Expo are to support the students in making wise career choices, inspire them to discover, develop and achieve their full potential. In addition, the Career Fair & Expo will allow the students to interact with industry partners to understand the Career Trends in the job market for different career fields.

Kenya has over 60 Universities and Constituent colleges and nearly 200 public tertiary institutions that graduate students every year. Unfortunately, most of these graduates are either under-employed or unemployed, while a few who are formally employed often do not have the technical competencies and skills required by industry. While there are many reasons for unemployment, including poor economic growth and expansion of industry, lack of technical competencies and skills has been noted by the Inter-University Council of East Africa and employers as a major challenge.

The Career Fair & Expo sought to help address this gap with an aim of making our graduates marketable and employable at both local and international platforms.
