His Excellency Dr. Wilber Ottichilo, Governor of Vihiga Country will give a public lecture on developments, applications, challenges in use of space science and Earth Observations in in Kenya on Monday 25th November, 2019 at Millenium Hall 1, College of Biological and Physical Sciences, Chiromo Campus between 2- 4 pm.
Dr Ottichilo attended Makerere University from 1974 to 1977, the University of Nairobi from 1981 to 1983, as well as Colorado State University from 1984-1986. He obtained his doctorate in Natural Resource Management and Space Science from the University of Wageningen International Institute for Earth Observation and Geoinformation in The Netherlands. Prior to becoming the MP for Emuhaya Constituency, Dr Ottichilo was the Director General for Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD), an agency of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA). He was elected to parliament through a by-election after the Emuhaya Constituency seat in the Kenyan parliament became vacant, following the election of Kenneth Marende as speaker of the National Assembly.
Governor Ottichilo is capitalizing on space science to solve developmental issues in his constituency called Vihiga County – an administrative region in the former Western Province of Kenya whose capital is Mbale with a population of 554,622 and an area of 563 km².
