The University of Nairobi successfully hosted the Faculty of Law Career Fair & Expo 2026 on February 26–27, 2026 at the Parklands Campus under the theme “Shaping Future Lawyers for Local Relevance and Global Competitiveness.” The two-day event brought together students, legal practitioners, industry leaders, and career development experts to engage in meaningful discussions on career planning, emerging opportunities in the legal profession, and the skills required for success in a rapidly evolving legal landscape.

Organized by the Office of Career Services in collaboration with the Faculty of Law, the fair provided a platform for students to interact directly with legal professionals, participate in panel discussions, and explore internship and mentorship opportunities.

In her welcome remarks, Lucy Gikundi, Senior Assistant Registrar at the Faculty of Law, University of Nairobi, welcomed students, speakers, and industry partners to the career fair and expressed appreciation for the strong collaboration between the Faculty, the Office of Career Services, and the legal fraternity. She noted that the event was an important platform for law students to gain insights into the legal profession, interact with experienced practitioners, and better understand the diverse opportunities available within the legal field. She encouraged students to actively engage with the speakers and exhibitors throughout the two-day event and take advantage of the mentorship, networking, and career guidance opportunities provided.

“The legal profession is becoming increasingly dynamic and global. Platforms such as this career fair are important in helping students understand the skills, networks, and experiences required to succeed both locally and internationally,” she said.

The event was officially opened by Dr. Jackson Bett, the Associate Dean, Faculty of Law who represented the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs), Prof. Ayub Gitau. He commended the Faculty of Law and the Office of Career Services for creating opportunities that bridge the gap between academic training and professional practice.

Delivering the keynote address, Mr. Ambrose Otieno Rachier, Senior Counsel, Founding Partner at Rachier & Amollo Advocates, challenged students to uphold the highest standards of ethics and integrity as they pursue careers in the legal profession. He encouraged aspiring lawyers to approach their careers with discipline, professionalism, and a commitment to justice.

“The legal profession is built on trust and responsibility. As future lawyers, your reputation, integrity, and dedication to the rule of law will define your impact in society,” he told the students.

The first panel discussion focused on career planning for law students, highlighting the importance of building a strong professional foundation early in one’s academic journey. Panelists shared insights on making the most of law school through academic excellence, internships, mentorship, and extracurricular activities.

Sammy Ndolo, Managing Partner at CDH Kenya, emphasized the importance of developing practical skills alongside academic knowledge. He encouraged students to actively seek opportunities that expose them to real-world legal practice.

Similarly, Lawson Ondieki, Partner at Dentons Hamilton Harrison & Mathews, highlighted the importance of discipline and continuous learning in the legal profession. He noted that law students should take advantage of mentorship and networking opportunities that can guide their professional growth.

Speakers explored opportunities in areas such as technology law, intellectual property, environmental law, arbitration, and international legal practice.

Kethi Kilonzo, Managing Partner at Kilonzo & Company Advocates, encouraged students to think strategically about their careers and remain adaptable as the profession continues to evolve.

“Law is no longer confined to traditional court practice. Today’s lawyers must be versatile, innovative, and able to navigate complex legal issues across different sectors and jurisdictions,” she said.

Industry experts including Andrew Derrick Nyaga of ENS Kenya, Evelyne Kimani, Acting CEO of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (Kenya Branch), Isaiah Ngotho, Lecturer and Advocate specializing in Intellectual Property Law, Imelda Anika of Iseme, Kamau & Maema Advocates, and Kevin Mutulis, Partner at Anjarwalla & Khanna LLP, shared valuable perspectives on emerging legal opportunities and the importance of specialization.

The program also included a practical career skills session led by Victor Onyango, Consultant at EY Kenya and Lead Consultant at Prime Career Hub. His presentation focused on CV writing, interview skills, LinkedIn optimization, and personal branding for law students seeking to secure internships, pupillage, and training contracts.

Beyond the panel discussions, the career fair featured exhibitions by leading law firms and professional bodies, offering students the opportunity to interact with employers, explore career opportunities, and receive one-on-one mentorship.
