Some of the themes handled were the importance of a degree and how it can lead one into a suitable career, understanding ones identity and how it can be used to inform ones career identity, personal branding for the job market and the future of work as influenced by the new wave of technology.

The dean of students, Mr Johnson Ireri Kinyua, highlighted the importance of adjusting to the change in the job market by learning various technical skills that set one apart from other. He emphasized the importance for this as a way of marketing oneself and adjusting to the new technological era. From all the speakers of the day, the message was similar; that students needed to embrace technology and adjust by learning various technical and soft skills that allowed them to be better adaptable.

The students reported the career guidance session as very fruit full and informative. Especially with the impending inter-faculty transfer, students felt more aware and informed. Students felt much better equipped to begin their university journey and prepare themselves for their future careers. A similar goal echoing in the minds of all the students and that is to ‘hit the ground running’.
