Campaign against Gender-Based Violence by the UoN KiliRover Scouts

From April 16th to 20th, 2025, the University of Nairobi Kili Rover Scouts Crew embarked on a significant Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) camp in Mombasa, demonstrating the power of youth-led initiatives in driving positive change. 55 student scouts and their patron focused their efforts on impactful community engagement and environmental conservation throughout their five-day stay.

The streets of Mombasa's Central Business District became a stage for the scouts' commitment to social awareness. Their campaign against Gender-Based Violence saw them marching through the city, their message amplified by the energetic sounds of their brass band, drawing the attention and support of numerous local residents. This public demonstration served as a powerful call for action against a critical societal issue.

Beyond advocacy, the Kili Rovers extended a hand of support to the young individuals at the Likoni Rehabilitation Center. Through meaningful mentorship sessions, the scouts connected with the juveniles, offering guidance and sharing experiences. Their "Scouts and Law" initiative further provided tangible hope through the gifting of spiritual books and mathematical instrument sets. The visit culminated in a joyful color fest, fostering moments of shared happiness and breaking down barriers, followed by a communal meal of chapatis, strengthening bonds and creating lasting memories.

Recognizing the vital importance of environmental stewardship, the scouts actively participated in a mangrove reforestation project in Dongo Kundu. Spearheaded by their "Sprouting Green" and "GROVE" initiatives, the crew, in collaboration with local government administration, fellow scouts, and the Kenya Forest Service, successfully planted over 500 mangrove seedlings. This hands-on effort directly contributed to the restoration of the crucial coastal ecosystem and highlighted the scouts' commitment to a sustainable future.

The UON Kili Rover Scouts' Mombasa CSR camp served as a testament to the profound impact that dedicated young individuals can have on both their communities and the environment. Through their proactive engagement and collaborative spirit, they left behind tangible footprints of positive change in Mombasa, showcasing the core values of scouting in action.
