The Office of the Dean of Students and Career Services on Wednesday March 9 2022 held a detailed briefing session for final year students from the Faculties of Agriculture, Veterinary Medicine and Biosystems Engineering.
The session aimed at informing and equipping the students with information and knowledge about the Arava International Centre for Agricultural Training (AICAT) Program in Israel.
The Program's duration is a maximum of 11 months, during the agricultural season in the Arava. AICAT allocates the students to well- founded, modern farms in Kibbutz and Moshavs. Students carry out their practicum in the farms under the supervision of the farmer mentors with one to two days per week dedicated to frontal studies at AICAT's college under qualified teachers, lecturers and instructors. The main topics of the studies study include agriculture; farm management; food security and animal husbandry. Each student conducts monitored research and presents it at the end of the program.
The AICAT Program has been running at the University of Nairobi since 2017 and over 90 students have so far benefitted from the program. Below is a summary of the students enrolled in the various cohorts
- Cohort I – 10 Students
- Cohort II – 15 Students
- Cohort III – 19 Students
- Cohort IV – 50 Students
It is hoped that in 2022, more students will benefit from this learning by doing experiential program.
