Benchmarking Visit to Tangaza University on Disability Inclusion

The Tangaza University College hosted a Team from the University of Nairobi on  April 4, 2022 to share knowledge and learn the best practices in disability inclusion. The University of Nairobi Team comprised of the Disability Liaison Office and Central Disability Mainstreaming Committee Members who were joined by the Disability Inclusion Officer, representatives of Student Leaders, Students with Disabilities and the Coordinator for Professional Development all from Tangaza University College.

Some of the best practices for Disability Inclusion shared by Tangaza University College include continuous training and sensitization of Teaching Staff on Universal Design for Learning (UDL), leveraging on Assistive Learning Technology for learners with disabilities as opposed to braille machines, Use of Students Assistants as helpers to Students with disabilities , allocation of  budget for disability inclusion and entrenching the culture of disability inclusion in students leadership and students led activities/events among other strategies.

It was agreed that Disability inclusion was work in progress that required continuous partnership and collaboration for better results. The institutions endeavor to network through the existing platforms to promote disability inclusion.
