AFRICAN MATHEMATICS SEMINAR

As part of the UoN@50 celebrations, the School of Mathematics virtually hosts a weekly mathematics seminar for the whole of Africa. The goal of the seminar is building mathematical networks across Africa and showcasing African mathematical talent.

The next talk at Africa Mathematics Seminar on Wednesday 25, 2020 by Field Medalist: Prof. Andrei Okounkov will be interesting to both mathematicians and Physicists.

TITLE:   What the emptiness hides

ABSTRACT: 

The talk will be about vacua, that is, states in which some physical system can exist in infinite space for infinite time. We will see that vacua are full of interesting physics and mathematics. In particular, the parameter or moduli spaces of vacua are very interesting objects of study.
