Do you have an interest in learning how to ideate, validate, prototype and formalize a market creating venture? The JASIRI Talent Investor is a fully-funded 1-year program that will guide program participants from idea generation, validation, prototyping, market entry to venture creation. The program will introduce JASIRI Fellows to equally ambitious co-founders and will support them on an individual, team and business level.

Who/What is JASIRI?

JASIRI (meaning brave in Swahili) selects, develops, and funds high-potential aspiring entrepreneurs. JASIRI believes that entrepreneurial teams are at the heart of new venture creation and provides the entrepreneur with access to a diverse group of potential co-founders. JASIRI supports new ventures from idea generation to venture creation. JASIRI is supported by the Allan & Gill Gray Philanthropy (Gray Philanthropy).

What programs does JASIRI offer?

JASIRI Talent Investor: The JASIRI Talent Investor is a fully-funded 1-year program that will guide program participants from idea generation, validation, prototyping, market entry to venture creation. The program will introduce JASIRI Fellows to equally ambitious co-founders and will support them on an individual, team, and business level.

JASIRI Accelerator: The JASIRI ACCELERATOR invests in and supports companies with market-creating innovations.

Ideal Candidate

1.   A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university

2.   Age 25-35

3.   Significant experience in your field/sector

4.   A demonstrable history of entrepreneurial action

5.   A desire to meet equally ambitious co-founders

6.   A desire to learn how to ideate, validate, prototype and formalize a market creating venture

7.   Must be a citizen of Rwanda or Kenya

8.   Willingness to complete the one-year fully funded Talent Investor program on a full-time basis

9.   Willingness to travel to Kigali, Rwanda for a period of 3 months for the residential part of the program where teams are formed, and to continue with the remainder of the one-year full-time program in either Rwanda or Kenya.

The Office of Dean of Students and Career Services would like to inform you that the call for application for the 2021-2022 Education for Sustainable Energy Development (ESED) scholarships is now open. 

These scholarships are awarded to full-time master’s students from developing countries studying in fields of zero-carbon energy, smart grids, electric transportation, energy storage, advanced electricity technologies, public policy, economics, law, political science, or other relevant fields. The award of up to $21,000 US per year (for up to two years) is tenable at any university in the world. The deadline to submit an application is March 8, 2021. 

Since last year, Global Sustainable Electricity Partnership (GSEP) is allocating a share of its scholarships to students pursuing master’s studies in universities based in developing countries with the aim of supporting developing countries in building local expertise.

The Global Sustainable Electricity Partnership (GSEP) is a unique CEO-led alliance of leading global electricity companies promoting electrification and sustainable energy development. It has awarded 135 scholarships to students from 37 countries since the inception of the program in 2001.

As a leading institution of learning and research, the university, through C4DLab (the Innovation and Incubation Hub) and a strategic industry partner, is running a 6 month-long prestigious Research & Innovation Fellowship.

The competitive fellowship will give 20 select fellows an opportunity to solve real-life local problems while applying the 21st century 4Cs skills and explore human-centered design / Design thinking methodologies. The fellows - together with other curious change makers and a community of research and innovation experts - will engage in rewarding research, problem solving and innovation projects in financial services.  

To be admitted, the fellow will be required to have satisfied the following requirements:

·         Final level undergraduate and Masters-level students (interested PhD students will also be considered)

·         Students from the following Schools/faculties/departments: Computer Science, Business, Development Studies, Sociology, Psychology,  Anthropology, Law, Actuarial Science, Economics, Engineering, and Agriculture

·         Curious about research and innovation and particularly application of Design Thinking to solving real-life local problems.

·         Submit evidence of challenges that one has attempted to solve, CV, practical work portfolio and a motivation why your application should be considered.

·         Available to commit close to a 6 month-long program allocating an average of 15 hours per week to the fellowship program.

·         Demonstrated passion and interest in problem-solving and innovation challenges.

The select fellows will undertake a deep immersion into four pillars that shall prepare them as researchers and innovators. The four pillars are:

·         21st century 4 C’s skills of Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking and Creativity.

·         Principles and practices of Design Thinking, Innovation, and Problem Based Learning (fundamentals)

·         Multi-disciplinary practical problem-solving.

·         Practical research techniques – data collection, surveys, Focus Group Discussions, observation, and contextual interviews.

E-JUST offers “E-JUST TICAD7 African Scholarship for STI” to develop high quality human resources in the field of STI (Science, Technology and Innovation) toward future African STI network and beyond. These scholarships are provided under the cooperation of the Egyptian government and JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency). 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicants shall be researchers or instructors (or potentially expected to become those) who belong to universities or research institutions in Africa who needs to obtain M.Sc. degree in Engineering.
  • Applicable programs: Check poster
  • Applicant must be a holder of nationality of a country in Africa except for Egypt.
  • Must have home address and current address in African continents.
  • Not serving in the military.
  • Applicants should fulfil admission requirement and pass interview and oral examination.
  • Applicants shall continue their jobs in their home universities or institutions after completion of their postgraduate programs at E-JUST. Endorsement of application forms by their home institutions is required in order to assure they would return to home institutions in future.

The University Chaplaincy has organized an Inter-Faith University Prayer Day to commit the University Community and all planned activities for the year 2021 into God’s hands.
