FORMER SAFARICOM EXECUTIVE SANDRA OJIAMBO APPOINTED UN GOBAL COMPACT EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres has announced the appointment of Sanda Ojiambo as the Executive Director of the United Nations Global Compact. Ms. Ojiambo has served as the Head of Sustainable Business and Social Impact at Safaricom Plc since 2010. She was also the Senior Manager of Safaricom and MPESA Foundations from 2008 to 2010 which led to the implementation of several public-private partnership initiatives between Safaricom and UN organizations.

CROWDS AT MLANGO KUBWA DISPERSED BY POLICE WITH TEAR GAS

Police on Friday teargassed crowds trying to force their way into Eastleigh. The people were reportedly caught up with at Mlango Kubwa, an estate that borders Eastleigh.They were going to the business area to look for menial jobs while others were going to hawk their goods. But Eastleigh has been on partial lockdown for over 15 days now after it was identified as a coronavirus hotspot.

KENYA WILL NO LONGER IMPORT PPE (PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT)

Kenya on Friday recorded 52 new Covid-19 cases bringing the national tally to 1,161. Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said 2,567 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The Health minister, in his daily briefing, said Nairobi accounted for 23 of the new cases, Mombasa and Busia counties seven each. Kenya, which confirmed its first case of the virus on March 13, had tested a total of 55, 074 samples from different parts of the county by May 22.
