A group of students from the College of Humanities & Health Sciences visited the Children’s Cancer Ward at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) on Saturday 29th October 2016.
This is part of the numerous corporate social responsibilities, CSR that the Public Relations students have undertaken. The students engaged the delighted children with various activities like poems, dancing, singing games among others. The students were taken round the wards by the one of the nurses as they got to know the children better and encourage them. The doctor also urged them to go for cancer screening and to even take advantage of free cancer screen.
KNH has three pediatric cancer wards with roughly 300 children. Most of these children are from poor backgrounds and some have been abandoned by their parents and guardians
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease. During this month most health facilities offer the screening at no cost.
The students were accompanied by their lecturer, Mr. Godfrey Irungu Njega who was keen to note that UON Kenyatta Hospital have long working history with the University providing Human labor for the Hospital.
The students contributed money that will go towards buying diapers for the children at the hospital.
