Our client builds technology to help separated refugee families reconnect, focusing on refugee camps and urban areas throughout Africa and the Middle East, with their geographical remit continuing to expand.They work in challenging environments with challenging data, striving to crack a code of information dissemination to help families reconnect faster. JOB PROFILE

We are partnering with Facebook’s Free Basics service to give refugee populations in countries across the world access to their family tracing service for free. The work you do will enable displaced people in places like Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, and many others reconnect with missing family and friends.

 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

 

  • Creating a web application, localized for populations with vastly different mental models of technology than what you’re probably used to building for.
  • You’ll solve really tough (and fascinating) technical/UX challenges.
  • Your role would be a cornerstone of our web touchpoint team: using your web development prowess (Flask in particular) to work with our product designers to make the site come to life, in a way that is highly localized for each user population we build for.
  • You will be responsible for designing and implementing a Flask application that will bridge our client side code and our backend APIs (e.g. user, search, and messaging).

  • Client side grids and frameworks
  • Responsive web design patterns
  • Templating (jinja2)
  • Cross browser and multiple device support
  • Android experience

SKILLS AND OTHER COMPETENCIES

           

  • Experience building Flask (or similar) applications that host web apps
  • Strong Python skills including experience with pythonic design patterns and writing flake8 compliant code
  • Experience working with and wrapping internal/external API’s
  • A solid understanding of and some experience with HTML, SCSS, Javascript
  • Familiarity with Git, PostgreSQL, Nginx, AWS
